London, England -- (ReleaseWire) -- 04/21/2016 -- Over the next twelve months around 943,000 pot holes are set to be repaired after the Government announced a £50million funding budget that is to be shared amongst over 100 councils in the UK. This funding makes up a fifth on the Pothole Action Fund which is £250million for 2016 and if things go to plan by the end of 2021 more than 4 million potholes should be fixed.
According to experts, to repair all existing pot holes in the UK it could cost almost £20billion as they are not cheap to fix with certain areas in the UK costing over £50 per individual pothole. For the individual prices that it costs to repair pot holes in your area, you can visit the Government website.
But what is causing all of these pot holes? Unfortunately potholes are something that can't be avoided. They occur naturally and this is how it happens; Rainwater gathers in the cracks on a roads surface and when this water freezes the cracks expand, forcing roads to open up. This process then repeats itself overtime and in turn the holes get larger and larger.
One company that was keen to comment on the recent Government funding was Fair Rent and a spokesperson had this to say:
"This funding has come as great news to us, and we are sure many others are pleased too. Almost all journeys start and finish on local roads, therefore this is going to improve many, many journeys across the country and ensure that drivers are as happy as possible. It will also reduce the number of bumps and accidents."
